According to the data from the Russian Defense Ministry the armed Chechen guerrillas are putting up resistance despite their losses. For example during the latest 24 hours the federal forces conducted fights with the rebels near the following villages: Sernovodsk, Assinovskaya and Angek-Yurt. The Chechen militants transport additional weapons and ammunition to Grozny and are getting ready for a defense operation. They manage to produce grenade cup discharges at one of the factories in Grozny. At present the capital of Chechnya is divided into four sectors: the east part is occupied by Basayev's groups, south-west by the groups of Gelayev, the central part is under the command of Khambiyev and the Staropromyslovsky district is under the command of Bakuyev. According to the data from the Defense Military, the local civilians express discontent with the guerrillas' actions. Inhabitants of Bragun and Azamat-Yurt villages force the Chechen militants out of their settlements and created armed groups to resist the extremists. The fight of the local population against the rebels is supported by representatives of the Chechen clergy. For example mufti Kadyrov declared the Gudermes, Nozhayurt and Kurchalov districts free of vakhhabist religion.
